Privacy
Meanwhile is opening by invitation, in New York City and San Francisco first. This page covers the website and the waitlist. It says what we collect when you get in line, what we do with it, and how to make us delete it. When the app itself opens, it will have its own notice.
What we collect
What you type in, and nothing we could have asked for but did not need:
- To start: your email address.
- About you: first and last name, mobile number, ZIP code, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- How you play: the activity, your level (and DUPR rating if you give one), how often you play, when you are usually free, and your answer to “what’s the first thing you’d have Scout set up for you?”
- Optional, to move up the line: a DUPR profile link, an Instagram handle, up to three other links, whether you would pay for a founding membership, and the referral code you arrived with.
And a few things the network tells us:
- The country your request came from, and a region derived from it.
- What kind of phone line your number is (mobile, landline, internet). We ask this so one person cannot hold many places with throwaway numbers.
- Campaign tags (UTM parameters) from the link you followed, if it had any.
- The date, and the version of this notice, when you gave each consent.
We do not store your IP address. It is used for a moment to limit how fast one address can send requests, in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the address, and then it is gone. We never see or store the code we text you: our text message provider creates it and checks it.
What we use it for
- To keep your place in line and tell you when it is your turn.
- To confirm you are one real person. That is what the text message, the line type check, and the optional links are for.
- To decide the order of the line, described below.
- To plan where and what to open next: ZIP codes, levels and free times tell us whether enough people could actually play each other.
- To give your agent, Scout, somewhere to start if you are invited and choose to bring your answers with you.
We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
How the line is ordered
Your place is set by a score. Verified facts raise it: a ZIP in a city we are opening, playing regularly, a specific answer to the Scout question, links that are plainly yours, a friend who vouched for you, friends you brought who verified a phone. Ties go to whoever signed up first. The page shows your position and the size of each step, never the points.
A person, not the score, decides who is invited and when, and balances each group so the people in it can play each other. Nothing about your age, gender, race, religion, or anything else about who you are is scored or considered. We flag applications only for signs of fraud, such as the same link on two applications.
Who never sees it
Other people on the list, members, and their agents. What you give the waitlist is for running the waitlist. Your position, your answers and your links are shown only to you, signed in. If you bring friends, you see how many verified, never who.
Who handles it for us
These companies process waitlist data on our instructions, to provide their service to us and for nothing else:
- Cloudflare serves this site, runs the waitlist service, and runs the check that tells people from bots.
- Supabase hosts the database, in the United States.
- Twilio receives your mobile number to look up the line type and to send and check your code.
- Resend receives your email address to deliver our emails.
- Google receives the analytics described below. It never receives your name, email, phone number, or anything you typed into the waitlist.
We would also disclose information if the law required it, or to a successor if Meanwhile were ever acquired, under terms no weaker than these.
Text messages
With your consent we text your one-time code, and later, messages about your waitlist status, invitations and account access. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party, other than the provider that delivers the messages.
Cookies and analytics
The waitlist sets one cookie, __Host-mw_wl, which keeps you signed in to
your place in line for 30 days. It is strictly necessary, it holds a random
token and nothing about you, and scripts on the page cannot read it.
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people arrive on. It sets its own cookies and sends Google your IP address, which Google uses to place you in a country or region and does not give back to us. We see counts and page paths. We do not connect it to your application, and the page that shows your application never loads it at all.
- In the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask first. Nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookie is set unless you say yes. To know whether to ask, the page asks our own service whether your request came from one of those places. It answers yes or no and records nothing.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, analytics never loads, wherever you are, and you are not asked.
- Anywhere, you can change your answer below, and an ad blocker or Google’s opt-out add-on will also stop it. Nothing here breaks if you do.
Your answer, and whether you need to be asked, are remembered in your own browser. Neither identifies you.
How long we keep it
- An application you start and never finish is deleted automatically after 30 days.
- An application in line is kept until you are invited, you delete it, or the waitlist closes.
- If we decline an application, we delete it within 90 days.
- If you are invited and join, we ask before carrying your answers into your member profile. What you leave behind is deleted.
Your choices
- Delete it. “Delete my application” at the bottom of your place in line removes the application, your links and your sign-ins, immediately and for good.
- Change it. You can edit how you play, and remove any link, on the same page.
- Stop the email. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.
- Stop the texts. Reply STOP.
- See it or correct it. Write to [email protected] from the address you applied with. We answer within 30 days, and we will never treat you differently for asking.
Depending on where you live, the law may give you these rights by name: to know, to access, to correct, to delete, and to object. They are the choices above. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context advertising.
Security
Everything travels encrypted. The database accepts requests from our own service and from nothing else. Sign-in links and session tokens are stored only as one-way hashes, links work once, and no passwords exist to steal. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.
Age and location
Meanwhile is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we learn we have. The waitlist is run from, and its data is stored in, the United States.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, we email everyone in line before it takes effect, and the date and version at the top move. Earlier versions are available on request.
